Roku Streaming Stick Black Screen

I have my new roku express plugged into my 42 inch samsung smart tv using all the stock cables and accessories that came with the roku express a few minutes after setup i noticed the screen would flash black every 20 seconds or so regardless of whatever the roku was doing the display would simply black out for a few seconds then turn back on.
